FROM A VIEWER: You list Freidrick as made in USA. I bought an air conditioner from them because I believe in America. When it came it had "Made in China" on it. I am very disappointed. You need to tell people to contact the vendor and ask where it's made before buying. {08/09/10}

Dynamic Cooking Systems (DCS)
(Huntington Beach, CA): manufacturer of high-end cooktops, ranges, and ovens.
DCS was acquired in 2005 by New Zealand-based Fisher &
Paykel
From an ANONYMOUS Viewer:
I have some info for you regarding DCS & Fisher & Paykel appliances. Your info is out of date.
DCS moved its manufacturing to Mexico in 2009. All indoor cooking appliances are manufactured there for the worldwide market. The design and engineering remained in Huntington Beach, CA for a while and then was also shipped overseas to the parent company's engineering dept. in New Zealand.
The last info I had about Fisher & Paykel was that the Clyde, OH facility was mainly making motors/pumps for the Dish-drawer line of dishwashers (design also licensed to Kitchen-aid). The Mexico factory in Reynosa (across the border from McAllen, TX) is making most of the F&P refrigerators, and of course the above-mentioned DCS product line. The outdoor DCS products were 75% manufactured in China and I believe are now 100% manufactured in Mexico also. F&P/DCS maintains their sales/marketing operations, as well as a warehouse in the old Huntington Beach location.
Another tidbit of info, the GE Monogram pro range and cook top are manufactured by MABE in Mexico. MABE is 48% owned by GE. These used to be manufactured by DCS under license until 2 years ago.
If you want a lot appliance industry info, you can read a lot of "industry dirt" on a site called www.applianceadvisor.com. There's all kinds of info on who is making what, and where in the US and unfortunately in many cases, where they've shipped it out of the US.
More dirt: Electrolux (a Swedish brand which sells here and has a lot of TV ads featuring Kelly Ripa) also moved a factory from Michigan to Mexico a few years ago. Something tells me Kelly had no idea of this when she signed on to be a spokesperson. But then again, why should she care... Do a search on the appliance advisor site to get the proper info and dates.
Fisher & Paykel:
this New Zealand-based company moved production of
its SmartDrive washers and SmartLoad dryers to Clyde, OH in 2005. The Clyde
facility also produces motors for Whirlpool. Kenmore-brand appliances: at least
some models are made in USA, including the Kenmore Elite washers and dryers.
Available from Sears. (SEARS is a retailer, not a manufacturer, so Kenmore
washers and dryers are manufactured by many different companies, including
Amana, Frigidaire, GE, Jenn-Air, LG, and Whirlpool. Enquire about the origin of
the model you are interested in.) The profits go to New
Zealand, but at least they make the stuff (and pay American workers) here.

Staber Washing Machines
(Groveport, OH): energy efficient top loading tumble action washers, for
residential or commercial use. These unique washers have a six-sided inner tub
that rotates inside a stationary half of an eight-sided outer tub. The washers
use much less water, detergent, and energy than traditional top loading washers.
Each load is larger because there is no agitator taking up space. Because of
their energy efficiency, these washers also are suited for homes using solar
power. The website has informative video and photographs that explain how the
washer works.
Speed Queen (Ripon,
WI): best known for coin-operated laundry equipment, Speed Queen has brought its
reputation for quality and durability into the home market. All Speed Queen

OH), topmount refrigerators (Evansville, IN), dishwashers (Findlay, OH),

warming drawers (Oxford, MS), freestanding ranges (Tulsa, OK) Whirlpool's
acquisition of Maytag Corp., finalized on March 31, 2006, has led to integration
of operations of the two companies. But you might want to to
contact them and let them know what you think about their dealings with China.
From a viewer:
Whirlpool shut down it's refrigerator plant last year in Evansville. It's been slowly moving jobs to it's plant in Mexico over the past years, but as of last year, it's a big empty blue building next to the airport with about 500 Hoosiers out of a great job.
Maytag Corp. (Newton, IA): On March 31, 2006, this U.S.
manufacturer of washers, dryers, refrigerators, and dishwashers
became a subsidiary of Whirlpool. Whirlpool will
continue to market Maytag Corp. brand names, including Maytag, Amana, Magic
Chef, and Jenn-Air.
