Oct 24, 2002 Chechen militants held some 700 hostages in a Moscow theater threaten to blow up the building if police launch a rescue attempt. The incident began late Wednesday evening, as an estimated 700 people attended a performance of the extremely popular musical "Nord-Ost" or "Northeast" at Moscow's "Dubrovka" theater. At the theater at the beginning of the second act some three dozen gunmen wearing camouflage fatigues burst into the hall. They fired their weapons into the air and announced that they were Chechen rebels and that no one would be allowed (to leave) the theater. Valeri Girbakin, a spokesman for Moscow police, said the armed contingent included an unspecified number of women of "non-Slavic" nationalities, some with explosives strapped to their bodies.

Apr 22, 2001 A group of armed men burst into a luxury hotel in Istanbul late Sunday and took dozens of hotel staff and guest hostage. A Palestinian terrorist shot dead after infiltrating the Jenin-area West Bank settlement late Tuesday and opening fire in the residential area of the small enclave.

Oct 28, 2002 An American diplomat was assassinated in front of his home at 07:20 A.M. in Jordanian capital.

Sep 25, 2002 Suspected Islamic militants entered the offices of a Christian charity organization in the Pakistani city of Karachi, and shot seven people dead. An eighth man was critically injured, and an office assistant was beaten.

January 1998: This annual journal, compiled by the Counterterrorism Threat Assessment and Warning Unit, National Security Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, outlines trends in domestic terrorism.
