Japanese bookbinding I hope that this dissertation will encourage
readers to think of archaic Japanese binding methods as dynamic styles of
great relevance to the present day. If possible, readers should examine the
samples of various bindings supplied as they read this report. Note that
these sample bindings have been 'Westernised' in that the title-strips have
been applied to what, in a true Japanese book, would be thought of as the
back of each book.

Bookbinding
A Tutorial by
Douglas W. Jones. Bookbinding, the art of sewing pages into a cover to
make a book, can serve many purposes. This tutorial introduction is aimed
primarily at those who wish to preserve the content of old pulp paperbacks
by photocopying them onto archival paper and then binding the results using
an archival binding technique, the long-stitch. Most of this tutorial is
equally applicable to binding materials from other sources.

Bind It Fast
Make or repair books with this easy
technique. Adapted from an article in Boys' Life (October
1991) by Brook West. It's easy to repair paperback books using
Japanese bookbinding techniques. Just punch four holes through the book near
the spine and lash it together with needle and thread. You can make sketch
books, scrapbooks or blank books this way, too. To make smaller books, fold
several sheets of paper paper carefully into halves or quarters, clamp the
stack together and punch and bind it, then slit the pages apart with a sharp
knife afterwards, being careful not to cut the binding threads.
