I don't like cell phones, don't use them, but I know many people not only do - but have to. They are good for emergencies (if they work), so here's a page for those of you who find a use for them.

Cell Phone Radiation May Cause Visual Damage: In a recent scientific study conducted by a team of researchers from the Technion, a possible link between microwave radiation, similar to the type found in cellular phones, and different kinds of damage to the visual system was found. At least one kind of damage seems to accumulate over time and not heal, challenging the common view and leading the researchers to the assertion that the duration of exposure is not less important than the intensity of the irradiation. The researchers also emphasized that existing exposure guidelines for microwave radiation might have to change.

Police Device Used To Steal Your Cell Phone Data During Traffic Stop You may have heard about the Cellebrite cell phone extraction device (UFED) in the news lately. It gives law enforcement officials the ability to access all the information on your cell phone within a few short minutes. When it became known that Michigan State Police had been using the tool to access cell phones during traffic stops, it raised concern with the ACLU.

Police Use Cell Phone and Nav Data to Spy on Drivers By Doug Newcomb | May 3, 2011: In recent weeks we learned that Apple and Google are spying on people carrying the companies' smart phones. No big surprise there. But two other paranoia-inducing tech-tracking revelations that came out last week are perhaps more alarming for motorists: State police in Michigan have been collecting data from drivers' cell phones during routine traffic stops, and police in the Netherlands have used data from TomTom navigation systems to catch speeders and also determine the best places to install speed cameras.

Cell Phone Use by Insurgents in Iraq: Since the official availability of commercial cell phones in Iraq in 2004, Iraqi insurgents have developed numerous applications for them. The convenience, mobility, low cost, accessibility of information, and technological capacity of mobile phones has drastically enhanced the connectivity and collaboration of insurgents. This, in turn, has provided insurgents in Iraq new opportunities to circumvent counter-insurgency (COIN) efforts. It also has fostered unprecedented situational awareness in combat. As cell phone technology evolves, insurgents will continue to use cell phones to increase the efficiency and impact of their operations.

The Global Cell Phone Sickness Epidemic - Diagnosis and Prevention: Dr. George Carlo is a controversial whistleblower epidemiologist and public health scientist who continues to be attacked both by the cell phone industry that used to employ him and by cell phone safety activists. He’s known as the man who headed a multimillion dollar research project on the bio-effects of cell phones funded by the cell phone industry. The project was launched in 1993 as part of a deal made with Congress to keep the industry from being regulated. After six years, Dr. Carlo's research yielded alarming findings that linked cell phone radiation to serious health threats, including nerve and DNA damage and cancer. He submitted his results to the industry executives, naively expecting they would react responsibly. Instead, they tried to find ways to discredit his research and reputation with reporters and other scientists.

Cell Phone Radiation Chart According to the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), SAR or specific absorption rate is "a way of measuring the quantity of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body." For a phone to pass FCC certification, that phone's maximum SAR level must be less than 1.6W/kg (watts per kilogram). In Europe, the level is capped at 2W/kg. The SAR level listed in our chart represents the maximum SAR level with the phone next to the ear, a level obtained through required FCC tests...

Explosive Cell Phones | Hardware Secrets Several phone battery explosions have been registered in the last two years. Most of them were caused by Motorola devices with counterfeit batteries. Cordless Telephone Antenna Below is what I have been using for quite a long time now to stretch the reception range of my scanners on the cordless phone/baby monitor frequency ranges. CORDLESS MODIFICATIONS by Bob Kay, Monitoring Times Sept. 1990: If you own a Pro-2004 Scanner radio, you're probably an experienced radio surgeon. As you poked around the innards of the radio, you were gaining valuable experience. Sure, snipping a diode was easy, but it wasn't the only modification that required your attention. To add an additional 100 channels, you needed a steady hand, a keen eye and a thorough knowledge of soldering techniques. Now that you have successfully completed your internship, why not use your newly developed talents to extend the operating range of your cordless phone? The entire operation will take less than an hour, and it can be accomplished on your kitchen table. [Link recovered 5/6/11]
