Banding together is often the only feasible option in today's political & economic atmosphere for individuals to adequately prepare for a potential survival scenario. Groups of people have always come together to pool resources & knowledge - this is how clans, cities, and eventually nations came about.

In theory, this is a very good idea and a great way to make life a whole lot easier for everyone. In practice, it is obvious that it has worked only too well. Few individuals are now capable of independent living. Few people are capable of making or mending the clothes they wear each day, producing the fuel they use to drive, cook & heat their homes. Few people have the knowledge it takes to raise, harvest, preserve and prepare the food they eat.

Modern day society is an intricate and fragile network of highly specialized activities. Most individuals are trapped or enticed into this specialization by the need to survive as a member of this society or the desire to "live the good life (i.e. - make a lot of money)." In fact, many of our laws make it difficult or impossible for the average Jane or Joe to practice certain specialties - unless they become exclusive members of that specialty's group. Time constraints caused by the economics of modern life often conflict with the desire to learn and become "certified" in new specialties. Most "average" folks need to hold down two jobs as it is, simply to make ends meet.

In light of this, SSRsi has added this section to introduce Co-Op's & Communities that have been created for the purpose of group survival. SSRsi does not investigate the political or philosophical bent of these groups, however we will not knowingly link to any group involved in racism, bigotry, supremacy, terrorism, or hatred.

Please inform us immediately if you have proof that a linked group falls into one or more of these categories. Please remember that personal animosity, suspicion, or rejection does not immediately constitute "proof." Neither does religious exclusionism. Freedom of association implies the freedom to disassociate without malice. If someone tells you, "I'm sorry, friend, but this group is only for those who worship the Great Toadstool . . ," or whatever, please don't take offense. Find another group to join! On the other hand, those who condemn folks for their beliefs or physical attributes or heritage are not wanted or allowed on the SSRsi lists.

SSRsi received this communication on Nov 14 2011. The email below was bounced, so we were unable to reply. If you have or are planning a community in this area, let us know and we'll leave it up to Joe to contact YOU.
Are you aware of any communities forming in Texas north of Houston? My friends and I live in "The Woodlands", Conroe, and Huntsville Texas, and have considered Montgomery, the Palistine area, well, too many to list. I would like to make contact with other communities, and perhaps move into an area that is already underway. Areas both North and East of Dallas have also been considered. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the great information. Joe Brewer [email protected] [bad e-mail]

Cautionary Note:
Always check carefully the "fine print" before joining a group. Never send money or make any promises before assuring yourself that this is what you want to do. Have an attorney consult with you before signing anything. Always obtain an "escape clause" - in writing - allowing you total freedom of choice to stay or leave the group at any time you choose (not that this will always be honored when needed!).

Any group that demands subservience to a "Leader" or "Communal Head" or any other person(s) should only be joined with extreme caution, and is not generally advised. Any group that demands you turn over your personal property to the group, or into a communal pool, or to a central figurehead, should be avoided like the plague!

Remember that, to some groups, being "Christian," or "Muslim," or "Buddhist," etc., may have a radically different meaning to that which you hold and understand it to mean.

SSRsi GROUP DEFINITIONS: (These are OUR definitions)

A "Co-Op" is a group of people banded together for the benefit of discount (below market) purchasing of goods and/or services. These people need never see each other or know so much as one other person in their group. They are independent in all ways save for sharing the information on availability of discounts to the group. Easy to join.

A "Level I Community" is a group of people who live independently and operate as a Co-Op for discounts outside of the group, yet also provide support for each other in the form of goods, services and information. They have established a network of barter & trade or internal discounts for members of their community. They may have a communal "bug-out" site and/or warehousing facilities for survival storage, but may be separated by great distances. Usually easy to join, but occasionally requiring a "needed" specialty.

A "Level II Community" is an established group of people living together or in close proximity to each other. They own their own land, houses, etc., and have established a network among each other for day-to-day survival and in the event of emergency. They operate as a Level I Community, save for their proximity to each other. Relocation to the community locale and acceptance into the network is generally the only way to join.

A "Level III Community" is a self-contained community comprised entirely of members. The land is generally owned by the community as a whole, through individual shares. Members reside on and work in, for, or near the community. Power, water and communications are often internal or capable of becoming internal. Often a "closed" community and the hardest to join. Sometimes set up as a corporation or non-profit organization. Membership usually, but not always, requires approval and specific talents or specialties. Relocation is generally mandatory.

A "Level IV {Integration} Community" A New Idea on Survival Communities Most survival groups/communities fail in the first two years either because of the expense of maintaining the property or the inability to maintain a non-survival presence. This idea may solve these problems...
