INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO SERIES

From someone who bought the set and has watched it many times and learned alot; while at the same time was entertained by the skillful teachings of a very impressive survivalist with a sense of humor:

I can't say enough about this video series by Dr. Ron Hood. He is a very knowledgeable man who is a natural on camera.  His wife Karen is as skillful a videographer.  Watch out Speilburg! Karen has a camera!  Ron kept me glued to my TV and made me laugh while at the same time taught me things I had not learned in all my years of survival reading in books and documents.  He cleared up things I found confusing in the written word and in pencil drawings.

Dr. Hood doesn't film this from his classroom environment. He takes you into the wild and shows you exactly how to do things. To quote the back of his videos:

"Dr. Hood filled these volumes with some of the best survival skills he
gleaned from his experience in US Army Special Warfare Teams in 
Vietnam and the Middle East.

"Ron also taught wilderness survival and high risk activities for 25
years at two major universities.  Ron has been featured in dozens of TV
specials including Backpacker magazines "Anyplace Wild" series."

His series includes such volumes as:
Fire Making, Survival Shelters, Survival Kits, Navigation, Traps.  He is currently in the process of making additional videos. I must say I was fascinated by Navigation and Traps.  I highly recommend the entire set. This is money well spent I guarantee it!

Ron cares about your safety, the environment and the animals and stresses this in all his instructions. I was only disappointed by one thing - we only get to see Karen once in the whole series, and that is only as a reflection in Ron's sunglasses. I suppose to meet his better half and Ron himself, we will have to take him up on his offer to come to California [ed. note: now Idaho, as they have just moved] and go on an outing with them, which he invites you to do at the end of all his videos.

I would like to mention a special note. I recommended this series to my hunting friends who head into the mountains every year to hunt.  They also thought they knew all they needed to know, until they saw Ron's Woodsmaster series.  Not only could they not wait to get home to watch the next volume, but a bond developed between them and their sons. Now they buy materials and practice what they learned in the backyard together. I will enjoy this kind of activity next time I see my son and watch the series with him.

My survival hat is off to Ron and Karen for a job very well done! If I had my choice between meeting the President or Dr. Ron Hood - it would be Ron "Del bow" Hood! Now quit reading this and go visit his web site! http://www.survival.com/
