The Arrl Antenna Book (19th Ed./Bk&CD-ROM) by R. Dean Straw (Editor) (Paperback - September 2000) No matter what you think of the ARRL, if you are a member or or not, they do provide the ham community with some invaluable resources. This book is one of them. It includes information on how to safely work on a tower, how to build antenna, computer modeling, RF exposure limits, antenna theory, and a lot more. Plus it includes as CD-ROM with some of the programs mentioned in the text. A must for all new hams, or anyone who wants to know more about antenna. For hams who already have previous editions, you may want it just for the software.
Handbook of Antennas for Emc by Thereza M. MacNamara (Hardcover - September 1995) A reference primarily for electromagnetic compatibility engineers but also possibly useful to circuit design engineers, quality assurance managers, and others seeking general or specific information about antennas. In self-contained sections, qualitatively describes the properties of an antenna, provides the revised mathematics for the theoretical descriptions of antennas, surveys a range of antennas according to their frequency, and describes the standard horns and correction factors used to calibrate them. Vhf and Uhf Antennas (Iee Electromagnetic Waves Series, No 35) by R. A. Burberry (Hardcover - March 1993) Describes the VHF and UHF antennas for the 30-3000 Mhz range that have been developed over the past 50 years, including many designs that have not previously been treated in detail, and several new uses for old designs. Among the topics are methods of predicting and measuring the performance of antennas, and how it is affected by the local environment, both normal and adverse, and by the structures on which the antennas are mounted, both fixed and mobile (including humans). Addressed primarily to practicing antenna engineers; the basic theory is assumed to be known except for the less known types. Distributed by INSPEC.
Practical Antenna Handbook by Joseph J. Carr, Joe Carr (Paperback) The nuts-and-bolts information needed to make antennas work along with the theoretical material necessary for understanding what is happening and applying principles to new projects. Advanced Array Systems, Applications and RF Technologies by Nicholas Fourikis (Hardcover) For radar engineers and scientists with an interest in phased array systems, Australian-based Fourikis describes current systems and their precursors and systems that are in the proposal, planning, or development stage. He focuses especially on processing signals derived from active array systems at their radio-intermediate frequency. He assumes a context of systems performing radar and electronic warfare or communications functions, or devoted to deriving radiometric images of celestial sources or of the earth's surface.
Multiantenna Digital Radio Transmission by Massimiliano Martone (Hardcover) A text or tutorial for members of the engineering community with a basic understanding of communication theory and an undergraduate electrical engineering background. It begins with fundamentals that force readers to consider the physics of wave propagation, which is usually neglected in communication theory texts, then explains several approaches to the demodulation of multi-antenna signals and their experimental analysis. The treatment is not comprehensive, but focuses on physical-layer issues, particularly as they relate to baseband signal processing requirement. Only recently has it been discovered that multi-antenna technology can achieve impressively high data rates for wireless communication without impacting bandwidth usage, transmitting power, or range. Security & Codes

Codes and Ciphers : Julius Caesar, the ENIGMA, and the Internet by Robert Churchhouse (Author) (Paperback - March 2002) Convinced that there is a middle way between code books that ignore mathematics altogether and those that assume the full arsenal of graduate-level mathematics, Churchhouse (computing mathematics, Cardiff U., Wales) introduces general readers to a number of codes and ciphers, starting with the ancient and elementary, and progressing through some wartime cipher machines to systems currently in commercial use today. Readers looking for the mathematics will find it in the appendix. Problems are included for class use or self- evaluation. Codes and Cryptography by Dominic Welsh (Paperback - July 1988) Takes a wide approach and explores the mathematical foundations of this field, considering information theory, entropy, and the encoding of messages. From these roots in information and communication theory, Welsh then moves on to topics in cryptography, including public key cryptography and digital signatures. The text also offers practice exercises along with their solutions. There is plenty of mathematics here, making this a book for specialists (a result of the author's experience teaching undergraduates at Oxford).
