Everyone should have at least some smattering of foreign language education... at the very least, the polite terms such as please, thank you, good morning, day and evening/night, and the minimum essential interrogatories: how do I, where is, how much, etc.

Tamil: Learn to Read Tamil Tamil is perhaps India's most ancient language. It is spoken by the people of Tamil Nadu and large communities in Sri Lanka , Malaysia and the West. A lot of India's rich heritage of culture is written in Tamil.

Tamil: Learn Tamil (pdf) To master Tamil writing, we need to learn to reproduce the 36 letters and 15 symbols that make up the Tamil alphabets. If we master that skill then we can write all the 247 alphabets plus the 61 grantha letters( 5*12+1).

Tamil: Thamil Paadanool - Learn Tamil The grammar presented has been organized and accepted for a while. I used 2 books: A Tamil Reader and Grammar (by Lindholm and Paramasivam) and Tamil for Beginners (by Hart and Hart). They both teach the same thing because Tamil is the same and has been the same for a long time. Tamil grammar has remained the same, probably for 3000 yrs, maybe more. (Also, many of the words that were used a long time ago are still used today, making Tamil a living ancient language. Tamil is still spoken the same way it was spoken a long time ago. I don't think any other language can claim that. Not Chinese, not Latin, not Sanskrit, not Greek, not Hebrew.) The way I figure, the Tamil grammar will remain the same, but a textbook's effectiveness comes from the way it presents this information. By writing this textbook, I'm trying to improve on the logical progression and the readability/usability of existing learning resources. I don't have a lot of linguistic commentary, because that isn't important to me. What is important is presenting all the necessary information along with pertinent sidenotes. I hope & expect things are self-explanatory through the boxes of grammar info and examples and text.

Tamil: Learn Tamil Through English A prerequisite for using the lessons is knowledge of the Thamil alphabet. Students should be able to sound out and read unfamiliar words (ezuththuk koottip padiththal). Students should also be able to read and write in English. Thus, the lessons are recommended for learners ages 10 and up. Lessons l-4 contained below have been successfully tested on second-generation Thamil students in the age range of 10-12. The only major problem was in the students’ difficulty pronouncing long or unfamiliar words. While using the lessons, it is important for students to read the Thamil words out loud to practice pronunciation.

Swedish: Swedish Language Course was designed for beginners and no previous knowledge of Swedish is assumed. However, the lessons may also be helpful for those people who have had previous experience and would like to improve their grammar or just simply practice or brush up.

Swedish: SSE - Introduction to Swedish is to enable you to start reading and practising Swedish on your own, with the help of a good dictionary. The course presents a brief outline of Swedish grammar, with the emphasis on the spoken, everyday language, and includes 186 speech samples (Wave files in PCM format). The words selected are, with few exceptions, among the most frequent in the Swedish language. No previous knowledge of grammar is required.

Swedish: Björn Engdahl's Swedish Course Swedish is spoken by approximately 9 million people in Sweden and some 300 000 in Finland. Written Swedish is quite similar to German and Dutch; Norwegians and Swedes understand each other perfectly. What is difficult (at first) and characteristic with the Swedish language is the pronunciation. I therefore suggest you take a brief look at the Swedish pronunciation guide before starting with the lessons.
