Chemical Emergencies at Home (PDF) When used properly, the chemicals
normally found in a home pose little threat. When used improperly, in
adverse conditions, or for jobs for which they were not intended, chemicals
can be harmful, even deadly. Knowing how to handle chemical products and how

Plan for Emergencies For emergencies at home, identify the safe
spots in your home to gather in the event of a tornado or earthquake, and
make evacuation plans for fires and floods. Designate family meeting places
both outside of the home and outside of the neighborhood, and identify a
point-of-contact – a friend or relative – to call in case family members are
separated. Make sure children know your home address and the addresses of
your meeting places, plus key phone numbers including your point-of-contact
and 911.
Overflowing Toilet Bowl Watching water rise to the top edge of a
toilet bowl is disconcerting to say the least. But in most cases the water
will stop running before overflowing. Many toilet bowls are designed in such
a way that they will usually hold the entire contents of the tank without
overflowing. But that's only IF the water level in the bowl was at its
normal height before the toilet was flushed.

Backwoods Home Magazine: Stay-at-home emergencies Some emergencies,
such as severe ice storms, power outages, and blizzards, occur every year or
so in many cold-climate areas, more frequently in other areas. This past
year El Nino has contributed to widespread flooding in areas unused to
flooding, and to major storms in areas unused to major storms. All these
things created emergencies that largely demand people stay where they are
out of common sense.
